The Festival of the
Lion King
[Disney Vacation Planner]
At A Glance |
Lion King based stage show,
similar in many respects to the Broadway version. Duration
approx 25 mins, some audience participation. Mostly live action,
minimal use of Audio Animatronics. |
Located within the Camp Minnie-Mickey area
of the Animal Kingdom, The 25 minute Festival of "The Lion
King" takes place in the Campside Circle part of Camp Minnie-Mickey
and features live music, tribal celebration song, dance and storytelling,
including most of the favorite charcters from Disney's "The
Lion King" animated film.
The stage based show is performed "in
the round" with audience members seated on the outskirts
of the action. The audience is divided into four sections named
after various animals elephants, lions, warthogs and giraffes
(nothing suprising there) and helps out with the singing and story.
The show consists of large puppets (weighing
40+ lbs) operated by puppeteers, carried on floats, and more than
30 elaborately costumed, live-action performers, who are joined
on stage by the various Lion King characters. It draws quite heavily
on the Broadway version of the Lion King stage show, with similar
costumes and makeup replacing full masks in many places.
Simba, Timon and Pumba play along with the
singers, dancers and acrobats. A band of rogue tribesmen and women
lead the action, with a host of zebras, monkeys and brighlty-plummed
birds helping to revive most of the songs from Disney's classic
film.
Overall it is an excellent show, and is as
well presented and performed as would be expected from a Disney
stage show. Definitely one not to be missed. It shows daily, however
the time varies from day to day so you need to check the guidemap
in the park for details of the actual times the show is on.
Since this is a popular show queues for each
performance can build up quickly, so when the park is busy you
should ideally aim to arrive around 30 minutes before the scheduled
performance times.
